The Brit Awards was transmitted live (the last time was in 1989) and was hosted by Russell Brand (Big Mouth from the Big Brother show).
It was a grand affair and here are the winners of the British equivalent of the Grammys:

* British Group: Arctic Monkeys
* MasterCard British Album: Arctic Monkeys

* British Live Act: Muse
* International Male Solo Artist: Justin Timberlake
* International Female Solo Artist: Nelly Furtado
* International Group: The Killers
* International Album :Killers “Sam’s Town”
* International Breakthrough Act: Orson
* Outstanding Contribution to Music: Oasis
The big winners were clearly the Artic Monkeys and The Killers, both indie rock groups.
